God’s healing power for you: 6 keys to receive healing

Why is there sickness? Does it come from God?

“Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned.” GNT

Romans 5:12

Because of the disobedience of our first parents, we live in this fallen world where disease, suffering, and death exist.

What causes sickness?

The causes of our illness can be physical or supernatural.

Sickness can result from lack of sleep and exercise, stress and burnout, or simply poor nutrition and eating habits.

While sickness is not a sin, it can result from disobedience to God’s commands and violation of His laws. Our life and physical health are God’s gift we must take reasonable care of. But when we overindulge with food and alcohol, overwork, get addicted to drugs, or take anything that destroys our body, we sin against God. These sinful acts place our body where it is susceptible to illness.

Sickness can be a judgment from God. The old testament in the bible has records that God brought physical infirmities to a certain sinful person or even the entire nation. Our God may choose to judge our sins by sending some physical affliction.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.”

Psalm 38:3

The devil is an agent of sickness. But first, it is crucial to note that our God is in control of everything. He has a perfect purpose when He allows the devil to bring about sickness and affliction to us. Sickness can be used to test and refine our faith, like the case of Job. God allowed Satan to exercise his power over Job and inflict him with a painful disease to prove his faithfulness.

Sometimes, God allows sickness so that His glory may be shown into our life. This is what Jesus said when He healed a man born blind in John 9:3,

“His blindness has nothing to do with his sins or his parent’s sins. He is blind so that God’s power might be seen at work in him.” (GNT)

Illness can be an opportunity for God’s grace to be revealed, just as the Lord did not heal Paul’s illness — a thorn in the flesh. Instead, told Paul in 2 Cor 12:9,

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

When we wander far from God, He may send suffering to draw us back to Him and remind us how much we need Him. Sickness can be God’s way to correct and lead us to a greater dependence on Him.

God wants us well

Often, we may not understand God’s purpose for allowing sickness to fall into us or to someone we care about. God wants us all well, and He wants to restore us to how good He created man and the world. As evidence, He sent His only son Jesus Christ, who suffered, died on the cross to save and heal us.

But he endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God. But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received.” (GNT)

Isaiah 53:4-5

Jesus has the power to heal

Jesus healed many people: the blind, lame, deaf, leper, those with chronic illness and possessed by evil spirits. He even gave authority to his disciples over unclean spirits; to cast them out, to heal every disease and every sickness. After He ascended into heaven, the apostles continued His works. Jesus heals until today. Yes, the healing power of Jesus is alive and available to you and your loved ones today.

How to receive healing?

Six (6) keys to benefit from the healing power of God.

1. Believe

To be healed, we must first believe in the presence of God’s healing power. Faith is an essential component to receive healing from God. Jesus commended the faith of a woman who suffered severe bleeding for twelve years in Mark 5:28-29,34.

For she said, ‘If I just touch his clothes, I will be made well.’ Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction… He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.’”

Our faith causes the release of God’s power to heal us.

2. Submit to God

It is God’s will to heal us. But healing does not come when we try to take control of the situation and demand our way.

A leper came to him, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, “If you want to, you can make me clean.” Being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, “I want to. Be made clean.” When he had said this, immediately the leprosy departed from him and he was made clean.”

Mark 1:40-42

When we submit to God, we allow Him complete control over our lives, to work in us, through us, and around us. And when God works, He heals, restores, and saves.

3. Take a dose of God’s word

We take medicine when we are sick. God gives us free medicine to take every day, that is His WORD.

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen to my words. Never let them get away from you. Remember them in your heart. They will give life and health to anyone who understands them.” (GNT)

Proverbs 4:20-22

So how about a dose of God’s word every day? Or you can take God’s word three times daily, after meals.

4. Pray

There is power in prayer. It may not be an instant remedy, but it will surely help you find strength, hope, comfort, and peace. We connect with God thru prayer. When we pray, we tap into His power and mercy. God calls us to pray in 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18,

“Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus towards you.”

5. Call the church elders

The bible tells us in James 5:14-15, “Are any among you sick? They should send for the church elders, who will pray for them and rub olive on them in the name of the Lord. This prayer made in faith will heal the sick; the Lord will restore them to health, and the sins they have committed will be forgiven.”

For Catholics, the sacrament of anointing of the sick is administered to those who are facing life-threatening situations, imminent death, or old age.

6. Keep your faith

Most get discouraged and give up faith when they don’t receive instantaneous healing. Others would easily forget about God when all is well in them.

Whatever situation you may have in life, keep on believing and don’t stop praying. Be steadfast in your faith.

Friend, we will share with you this powerful healing prayer written by St. Padre Pio:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for loving me. I thank you for sending your Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, to the world to save and set me free.

I trust in your power and grace that sustain and restore me.

Loving Father, touch me now with your healing hands, for I believe that your will is for me to be well in mind, body, soul, and spirit.

Cover me with the most precious blood of your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ from the top of my head to the soles of my feet.

Cast anything that should not be in me.

Root out any unhealthy and abnormal cells.

Open any blocked arteries or veins and rebuild and replenish any damaged areas.

Remove all inflammation and cleanse any infection by the power of Jesus’ precious blood.

Let the fire of your healing love pass through my entire body to heal and make new any diseased areas so that my body will function the way you created it to function.

Touch also my mind and my emotion, even the deepest recesses of my heart.

Saturate my entire being with your presence, love, joy, and peace and draw me ever closer to you every moment of my life.

And Father, fill me with the Holy Spirit and empower me to do your works so that my life will bring glory and honour to your holy name.

I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen!
