In the Heart of Jesus

Have you ever tried looking long into the heart of Jesus? Can you imagine His heart, pierced, crowned with thorns, and bleeding?

When I was a child, I grew up with a beautiful picture of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus that hung on our altar. And when I have my own family, such a picture is also present in our home. Whenever I look at it, I feel like Jesus is inviting me into His heart. It always makes me feel good, inspired, and at peace.

The heart

The heart symbolizes the human center, where our emotions, passions, and desires lie. In the image of the Most Sacred of Jesus, our Lord is pointing to His heart. Ever wonder why such a loving gesture of our Lord?

Jesus wants to reveal to the world His heart— burning with love and mercy for humanity. He longs to inflame us with His immense love that conquers sin and transcends death. In a most compassionate invitation, Jesus points to His heart, offering His unending love for humanity. Are you willing to take His love and love Him back?

A Self-giving love

Christ’s love for us is sacrificial love. He chose to suffer and lay down his life for our sake.

Overcome with anxiety, fear, and deep sorrow on the last night of his life on earth, Jesus prayed, “Father, if you will, take this cup of suffering away from me. Not my will, however, but your will be done.” Luke 22:42 (GNT)

Knowing what lies ahead of Him, the tortures, crucifixion, and death, agonized him so much that His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. (Luke 22:44) But despite His agony in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus surrendered His will to the Father. He chose to sacrifice His life because of His immense love for humanity. This self-giving love of Jesus offers a fountain of grace, mercy, and salvation for everyone.

Our Lord’s invitation

Jesus calls us to enter into His heart and unite our hearts with His. Proclaiming He is meek and humble in heart, Jesus invites us to come to Him and we will find rest.

“Come to me, all you who labour and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

We are burdened with many things in life: problems, sorrow, tragedy, loss, affliction, or disappointments. And our sin places a burden on us the most. But the self-giving love of Jesus can cleanse all the stains in our soul if we come to Him with humility.

Friend, whatever is going on in your life, Jesus is inviting you to come to Him without hesitation and fear.

How will you respond to His invitation?

Loving Jesus in return

There is no doubt of Christ’s unending love for us. He wants us to take His love and He longs for us to love Him back.

We can love Jesus in many ways:

  • Talk to Jesus. Tell Him you love Him.
  • Pray. Go to church and actively take part in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
  • Praise Him and like a child, ask from Him what you need.
  • Meditate on the passion and death of Jesus.
  • Spend time with Him even when you are busy.

We can also show our love for Jesus through others as He tells us in Matthew 25:45 that what we do to others, we also do for Him. Let us love one another as Christ loves us.

In everything that we do, whether big or small, love must continue to flow.

“You know well enough that Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them.”
