Girl praying

Have you ever doubt prayer can change your life? Do you underestimate its transforming power?

If we perceive prayer as merely a means of asking God for things we need in life, then we miss the primary purpose and essence of prayer. Praying to God only because we want Him to do something for us, will place us into trouble when prayer seems to be unanswered.

Prayer is more than giving God a list of what we want from Him. It is our communication channel and direct line to Him. Prayer is a powerful tool we can use to build an intimate relationship with God. Our Lord desires for His people to have frequent communion with Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 tells us, “Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus towards you.”

How does prayer change our life?

Constant prayer brings us closer to God. The more we spend time with God, the better we know Him and understand His ways. Through prayer, God reveals Himself to us, granting us the privilege to feel His presence and experience His wonderful workings in our life.

Prayer brings Hope

God, as our source of Hope, fills our mind and heart with Hope when we are faithful in prayer. Having hope is important to us. It is a driving force that keeps us focused and motivated in life. When we lost hope, our peace and joy are also lost. This is why Satan will attack our hope and fill us with fear, doubt, discouragement and grief. Faithfulness in prayer is our shield against this attack.

Prayer teaches us surrender

Prayer helps build and grow our faith. The Holy Spirit will work in us as we engage in an intimate conversation with God, changing our heart, molding us and conforming us into His likeness. When we pray, we learn to trust in Him and surrender to Him our worries and fears, our plans and dreams. We learn to let Him direct our life. We allow God to lead us to the right path, fill us with His peace and bless us with His goodness.

Oh taste and see that the LORD is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.”

(Psalms 34:8)

The power of persevering prayer

Do you feel tired of praying because your prayers have long been unanswered?

Our Lord desires to fulfill His promises to us. But, there may be things around us that block the blessings of God, or there may be something in us that needs to come to its fullness, before answers to our prayers can happen. As we persevere in praying, we learn to wait, to be patient, and to keep our faith in God. Persistent prayer will help us discover and let go of everything that hinders the will of God into our life. Prayer humbles us enough to see our weaknesses, to confess our sins, and acknowledge God’s infinite power. It purifies our soul and makes us worthy to receive what we are praying for or the blessings that God prepares for us.

In Luke 18:1-8, Jesus told us a parable that we must always pray and not give up.

He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray and not give up, saying, ‘There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God and didn’t respect man. A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’ He wouldn’t for a while; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’ ”

The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. Won’t God avenge his chosen ones who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Prayer should be our steering wheel and guiding force in life. Even in hard times, we must not give up praying. Problems and hardships should lead us to God instead of turning away from Him.

Friend, no matter what happens, let us fix our eyes to our Lord, and not on our afflictions. Continue to be steadfast in prayer, trusting and hopeful that God will change our life. May we persevere in prayer and keep our faith in God for His faithfulness endures forever.

For His loving kindness is great towards us. The LORD’s faithfulness endures forever. Praise the LORD.”

(Psalms 117:2)
